Questions

[edit]

I'm not sure, but have you contancted the people at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia about trying to get your project included in their banner and as a recognized member of their project? I think it might be a lot easier for you to gain members, and help spread awareness of your group faster, if you did so. Badbilltucker 15:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Townsville/Thuringowa

[edit]

Hi Gertzy, are you saying in talk:Townsville, Queensland that you feel the LGA issue shouldn't be a focus at all in the article? WikiTownsvillian 13:16, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

I have taken pics of signs for Mike Reynolds, Lindey Nelson Car, Peter Lindsay and George Colbran, also the Court complex and Townsville City Council admin building. Now just need to work out how to upload them :) maybe Thuringowacityrep can take a pic of the sign outside Craig Wallace's office and the Thur. Council Chambers on Thuringowa Drive? Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 07:21, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi WikiTownsvillian i have teken a lot of photo's of places in and around Townsville and Thuringowa but i have the same prob as you ...how to upload them... when you have worked it out could you let me know please and if i work it out i will let you know Thuringowacityrep 07:59, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ha Ha hA, All you two have to do is just find Upload File in toolbox on the left bar, and its simple, self-explanitory in a way, just include URL's, Author, Tags, Copyright (if there is/or isn't) etc etc. -- Gertzy 13:46, 12th January 2007 (UTC).

Ah, but if only life was that simple, I can't find the cord that connects the *$#% camera to the computer! It'll turn up. WikiTownsvillian 11:57, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rating

[edit]

Townsville, Queensland has now been rated as being of high importance to WikiProject Australia and of B Class quality which is only one below good!

"Has several of the elements described in "start", usually a majority of the material needed for a completed article. Nonetheless, it has significant gaps or missing elements or references, needs substantial editing for English language usage and/or clarity, balance of content, or contains other policy problems such as copyright, NPOV or NOR. With NPOV a well written B-class may correspond to the "Wikipedia 0.5" or "usable" standard. Articles that are close to GA status but don't meet the Good article criteria should be B- or Start-class articles."

Congrats! WikiTownsvillian 10:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we can use the following as examples of what to aim for:

  • Canberra (only featured city article)
  • Sydney (only A-Class city article)

GA or Good classed city articles are only one step higher than Townsville:

Townsville is currently rated as high or higher than all other Queensland cities. WikiTownsvillian 04:58, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geez, Congrats to all of us, especially alec for the notable changes which have resulted in our Rating. -- Gertzy 13:40, 12th January 2007 (UTC)
No way Gertzy, you've put in the long term hard yards on this article, respect. Feature article by 2008!!! WikiTownsvillian (a little drunk)1:15, 13th January 2007 (AEST)

Congratulations to Thuringowacityrep who, through a lot of work, has brought the City of Thuringowa article up to a B class! This whole project is starting to get into gear :) just need one or two more active members, WikiTownsvillian 07:49, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suburbs

[edit]

I have added the Suburbs template to all the existing suburb articles, thank you Getzy for creating the new ones in the last few days! WikiTownsvillian 07:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm planning to start a few more articles for some of the suburbs on the list, mainly to create more articles relating to the cities, and to give me something to do over the remainding part of the school holidays, so keep an eye out over the next week or two - Gertzy 13:51 (UTC) 12th April, 2007.

Stubs

[edit]

If you think that there are roughly 60 Townsville stubs, you can contact the Stub-sorting WikiProject, and add a proposal to create {{Townsville-stub}} on their proposals page. Especially since their is a WikiProject to support the stubs, there should be any trouble with the proposal, as long as can meet their minimum number of articles for stub creation. BlankVerse 09:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much all the articles which could be considered within the scope of Wikiproject Townsville are stubs or not yet rated:

AFL Townsville, Aitkenvale, Queensland, Annandale, Queensland, Australian Festival of Chamber Music, Belgian Gardens, Queensland, Bushland Beach, Queensland, Castletown Shoppingworld, Dancenorth australia, Deeragun, Queensland, Douglas, Queensland, Garbutt, Queensland, Hermit Park, Queensland, Hyde Park, Queensland, Idalia, Queensland, Ignatius Park College, Kirwan, Queensland, Lavarack Barracks, The Marian School, Macair Airlines, Tony Mooney, Mt Louisa, Queensland, Mundingburra, Queensland, Museum of Tropical Queensland, Mysterton, Queensland, North Ward, Queensland, Oonoonba, Queensland, Paluma, Queensland, Pimlico State High School, Pimlico, Queensland, Port of Townsville, Railway Estate, Queensland, Riverway, Thuringowa, Ross River (Queensland), Ross River Dam, Rowes Bay, Queensland, Ryan Catholic College, The Strand, Townsville, Shopping in Townsville, Signals, 5th Australian Division, South Townsville, Queensland, St Joseph's Mundingburra Catholic School, Stockland Townsville, Stuart, Queensland, Sunbus Townsville, Suburbs of Townsville, Thuringowa Central, Queensland, Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre, Townsville Bulletin, Townsville CBD, Queensland, Townsville Hospital, Tropic Sun Theatre Company, Vincent, Queensland, West End, Queensland (Townsville), William Ross State High School, Wulguru, Queensland

maybes: The Cathedral School, Townsville, Castle Hill, Townsville, Douglas Arterial Road

I think there are roughly 60 so I will make the proposal. WikiTownsvillian 11:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you've already made the proposal. You should add a link to this section so that they know that you've already created a list of stubs. You should also tell them what the 'parent' stub and stub category would be. That looks like it should be {{Queensland-geo-stub}} / Category:Queensland geography stubs (or {{FarNorthQueensland-geo-stub}} / Category:Far North Queensland geography stubs. I don't know that area of Australia at all). BlankVerse 13:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Considering your comments at WSS/P, I'm wondering if a better name for this WikiProject might not be WikiProject North Queensland. BlankVerse 11:03, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Separate State for North Queensland

[edit]

What do you guys think of State of North Queensland (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)? WikiTownsvillian 08:53, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it mate maybe if it is a good artical someone from the goverenment will look at making North QLD a State of it's own like they did some years ago Thuringowacityrep 09:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not my article actually, just wanted to hear some thoughts on it. WikiTownsvillian 10:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

history

[edit]

Just a message that Peter DUNN http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/ has excellent history of Townsville and I wrote to him and although he is very busy, he would love the idea of wikipedia refelcting his work. I started to but ran out of time and I kept getting messages that all teh images I used with permission were removed.--Phenss 11:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ratings for Townsville Wikiproject

[edit]

I've rated about half of the articles:

It would be great if you guys could have a look at what I've done and see if you agree with the ratings of importance to this wikiproject. Also I have not yet rated (see here) the suburb articles (which I think should probably be rated Mid, but would like to hear your thoughts) or the culture articles which I have written because I'm too close to them to be objective, also I haven't rated some of the Thuringowa specific ones as I'm not sure where to rate them under this wikiproject. Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 08:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding WP Townsville auto-categorisation

[edit]

I note that (because I am a member of both of these also) if I place the WP Australia or WP Riverina template on my user page it automatically denotes at the foot of the page that I am a WikiProject Australia and/or Riverina member. This does not occur (for me or any other member) when the template WP Townsville is uploaded. Should this be adjusted as it seems to me that would be another way of attracting interest and members?--VS talk 09:04, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Everyone!

[edit]

Just thought I'd mention that I am going to try and fill out some of the suburb articles... thought I'd start with Pallarenda, Queensland since that is where I live. There was an interesting debate not that long ago about part of Cape Pallarenda being rezoned for development... anyone know anything about it? I am a lemon 10:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I am a lemon, welcome!
Thanks for starting the article, I've seen a bit about that issue in the news and I'd be happy to add some material about the Pallarenda land being developed and the surrounding controversy, will get onto it over the next few days. Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 12:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ACOTF

[edit]

please support the nomination of Townsville for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight. Cheers, WikiTownsvillian 12:59, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Althea

[edit]

I recently referred to CA in the JCU article and clicked on the link to see where it goes. Now, if you have a look, you'll notice that it's not actually a page for CA. Shouldn't CA have it's own seperate page or is it a Wikipedia convention that it be only referenced in that list? Niël 15:16, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Open tasks

[edit]

Is this a list of "things to do"? If yes, do you think this section needs to be revised. Some articles are very well developed, others not so good but unlikely to warrant much more work given subject matter and other priorities. ROxBo (talk) 16:44, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Population of Townsville

[edit]

Please see Talk:Townsville, Queensland for discussion on this. There is a disagreement on which is most appropriate - choices appear to be

  • 1) 2006 Census UC/L,
  • 2) 2006 Census SD and,
  • 3) 2008 Australian Bureau Statistics SD estimate.

Currently 2) and 3) are in the article but one editor has been strident about using only 1). Choice 2) has been listed in the article for over a year now, and seems reasonable. Choice 1) excludes areas like Pallarenda from the Townsville population count, which to me is clearly part of Townsville. Also excludes anything past Garbutt, so for example Deeragun is excluded from Townsville's population. Thanks for your review of this - I'd be grateful for some input.ROxBo (talk) 17:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Townsville article nominated for GA

Photo request

[edit]

I've been working on an article covering the Army's LCM2000 watercraft, and came across this news story in the Townsville Bulletin which explains their fate and includes a great photo of the craft at Rosshaven marina. Would any members of this project be able to visit the marina and take a photo of the craft for inclusion in the article? The location where they're laid up is visible on Google Maps here (though the satellite image may, of course, now be out of date) and it appears that the photo in the Townsville Bulletin was taken from Fifth Avenue. Thanks, and I'd be happy to swap this for a photo of a location/thing of your choice here in Canberra. Nick-D (talk) 08:03, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is this project alive?

[edit]

I am curious as to whether this project is still alive at this point. If not, I propose that it be rolled into WikiProject Queensland, keeping Townsville as a "task force" per the WP:PERTH precedent. Orderinchaos 05:47, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup in April and June

Anyone interested in a meetup in April or June see Wikipedia:Meetup/Townsville. Also, what is a good picture for the invite template? John Vandenberg (chat)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
